Tractors
The tractors available for contract Goodfellow Farming are predominantly Fendt. along with with a Case 620 quad-track for heavy cultivation.
As a farming principle we believe in reducing soil compaction wherever possible. All tractors use large tires and we’re moving towards tractors that have automatic tire inflation such as our most recent purchase the Fendt 828 and 936

Combines
Goodfellow Farming has two Claas Combines. A 780TT with 12.3m header and a 760TT with10.5m header allowing for huge output. Tracks give the Claas combines fantastic ability to traverse across all conditions leaving a light foot print. Both combines are also fitted with field mapping so you know exactly what you’re getting from your land.

Seed Drills
Vaderstad Rapid 6 Metre
This drill is proven to give results and is used for the majority of Goodfellow Farming sowing. Can be used both on ploughing and minimum tillage.
Claydon 6 Metre
A recent purchase to the business with a view to carry out direct drilling to cut down our establishment costs. Purchased as a six litre to work alongside our controlled traffic approach using 12m rollers 36 litres sprayers.
Lemken Combination 3 Metre Drill
Bought primarily for sowing game plots and small fields. This is also our wet weather back up machine in a wet sowing period.
Samco Maize Drill
Since 2009 Goodfellow has been sowing maize under plastic for both commercial forage crops and game crops. This unique machine is able to spray weed killer both under and around the plastic allowing good weed control. The plastic increases soil temperature so that is equivalent to a field 200 miles south. Establishing maize in Northumberland without plastic is difficult. A new Samco Drill was purchased in 2021 giving better results and higher outputs.

Oil Seed Rape Drill – 3m or 6m
Just for oil seed rape sowing. We have designed and built our own oil seed rape sowing system based on the Gregoire Besson Discordon cultivator (this machine has the ability to sub-soil at depth and to create a good tilth.

The seed is distributed at 50cm spacing. Liquid Urea fertiliser is sprayed in the same line as the seed giving rapid and vigorous establishment. The machine also spreads slug pellets the width of the drill.
The success of the 3m drill stimulated us to build a 6m as well which is pulled by the Quadtrac (as pictured). We’re drilling over 1000 acres of OSR a year.

Sprayers
Self Propelled Multi Drive Chafer 5000 litre (36 Metre)
High output sprayer with flotation and row crop wheels. This machine is fated with GPS auto-section shut off. The 5000 Litre tank allows us to get a lot of fertilising done before we need to refill – saving time.

Horsch (36 metre/ 8000L)
New to us in 2018, this sprayer significantly increases our output. It’s boom levelling system gives us a perfect spray pattern all the time, ensuring better utilisation of the chemicals we are applying.

Liquid Fertiliser
Goodfellow farming has been using liquid fertilisers since the early 1980s as firm believers in the system and the benefits of liquid fertiliser. We can apply fertiliser very accurately right to the edge of the field without any wastage. We mix our own Ammonia Sulphate and Urea in our 3 mixing tanks based at Longwitton. This gives our customers a price advantage over competitors.
